In-Home Private Puppy Training, is when we the trainer/behaviorist come to you in the comfort and convienience of your home, and we design a custom program of training based on your puppie breed, temperment. This training comes with a FREE Temperment Test. We can then look at any particular needs you the owner have. The training is as much about training you the owner to understand and be able to work in a playful way correcting any behavior problems that might currently exist or that may arise in your new best friend! It is always best to work with all mature menbers of the family, but the choice is up to you.

Grop Classes, "Manners Classes," Socialization Classes," can't help with most behavior problems that are happeneing in your home and around your home. A puppy or dog learns where they are trained. Group classes are NOTHING like your HOME ENVIRONMENT. This is why group classes can't help.

The In-Home Private Training is structured in a series of 1-hour lessons. The lessons are usually spaced two weeks apart, but we are happy to accommodate your schedule.

T.L.C. K-9 Academy offers a house training package that is suitable for either the owner of a new puppy, or the owner of a puppy or dog that has failed to respond to the house training program at home, or the pet parent that has just adopted an un-housetrained older dog from a shelter or rescue organization.

We create an "idiot-proof" house training program that will fit into your life-style. This program is adaptable to almost any type of life style: from a high-rise city apartment to a farm in the country.

The dog or puppy must remain on premises until the conditioning is strongly internalized. The program consists of 30 day segments, older dogs with long-term potty training issues may have to remain in the program for more than one 30 day cycle.

There are four simple, yet essential skills, that a dog must master before it can be considered house trained. If any one of these skills is not mastered your dog will continue to have "accidents" for the rest of i's life.

If your puppy was acquired at a young age, between 5 weeks and 4 months of age, you will have about 6 months to put the puppy on the correct path.

If on the other hand, your dog is an older dog (more than 5 months of age) or an adult dog, you have about 30 days to assist your dog in mastering these important foundation skills.

There is a point in a dog's development, where, if he has not mastered the following 4 foundation skills, your dog has reached the point of "No Return." This is a point in a dog's development where improper conditioning, bad habits, poor breeding and age converge (at 6 months to 1 year of age).

Once at the "Point of No Return" the chances that a puppy or dog can be properly house trained, are greatly reduced, to zero.

The Four Foundation Skills of House Training

1. NEVER go in the house or the crate.
2. ALWAYS go outside.
3. ALWAYS hold "it" until you get outside.
4. ALWAYS tell me, your owner, when you have to go outside to potty.

The Very Young Puppy

A Young Puppy is a puppy between [5 Weeks to 16 Weeks]of age.

• Housetraining cannot be effective until your puppy is at least 16 weeks old (4+ months) because he does not have ANY control over his bowel and bladder muscles until this age.
• With some breeds of dogs [scent hounds, sight hounds, toy breeds, mastiffs and terriers] it may take at least a year to completely housetrain your dog.
• Some toy breed puppies will have to go out as frequently as every 10 minutes when they are young.
• Puppies that are taken from the litter at a very young age:
• Purchased from inexperienced "hobby" breeders,
• Purchased from farms,
• Purchased from "puppy brokers" or
• Purchased from retail outlets (farms, pet stores, backyards) tend to have greater difficulty becoming house trained and crate trained.

Your duty as the owner of a very young puppy is to prevent accidents, ignore mistakes and reward good behavior. As of today, any potty accident is ALWAYS YOUR FAULT!
